What are the benefits of Massage Therapy?.

Massage therapy treatment has a therapeutic effect on the body and optimizes health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Physical function can be developed, maintained and improved; and physical dysfunction and pain and the effects of stress can be relieved or prevented through the use of Massage Therapy. (College of Massage Therapists Ontario)

What does Massage Therapy consist of?

Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints for the purpose of optimizing health.

Modern massage techniques can be traced back to the 1700s and the development of Swedish massage, the first systematic method of therapeutic massage based on physiology. Today’s Massage Therapists use their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to combine traditional Swedish and modern Massage Therapy techniques with exercise and other therapies to treat their clients.

We will recommend a treatment plan for you depending on your needs and work with our care coordinators to arrange a suitable treatment schedule after your first appointment.

As a general rule for booking follow-ups is that if you have an injury affecting a single part of your body (i.e. knee), then a 30 minute consultation is typically sufficient. If you have an injury affecting two body parts (i.e. both knees), then a 45 minute consultation is warranted. If you are seeking treatment for multiple areas in your body (i.e. head, neck, shoulders after a motor vehicle accident), then we recommend either a 60 or 75 minute treatment and consultation.

Each case is different and treatment time may vary depending on each individual.
