Pickleball

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the GTA — and with that comes real demands on your body. At Vaughan Physiotherapy Clinic, our physiotherapists, chiropractors, and registered massage therapists work together to keep pickleball players at every level moving well, recovering faster, and staying on the court longer.

Stay on the Ice

Whether you're already feeling it or just want to keep skating pain-free, hockey is harder on your body than it looks.

Here's what every player should know:

Below, we break down what hockey is really doing to your body, so you can keep playing the game you love for as long as you want.

Built For Every Player

Hockey injuries don't look the same at every age or level. We tailor care to where you are.

Minor Hockey Players

  • Heavy ice time on fast-growing, still-developing bodies
  • Concussion awareness and safe return-to-play come first

Kids don't just need less ice time. They need the right movement base before the volume climbs.

Beer League & Recreational

  • Weekend intensity on a weekday, deconditioned body
  • Old strains that flare the moment you push

The fix isn't rest. It's learning how your body actually moves on the ice.

Rep & Competitive Players

  • High ice time with little room to recover
  • Groin and hip overload stacking up all season

Fatigue is when injuries happen, not the warm-up.

Goalies

  • Butterfly load through the hips and groin
  • Deep flexion and rotation, save after save

Your position lives at end range. Your training should too.

Masters & 50+ Players

  • Start-stop demand is harder on aging joints
  • Balance, back, and hip flexors take the hit

You don't need to hang up the skates. You need to train smarter.

Coming Back from Injury

  • Returning from concussion, surgery, or a long layoff
  • Progression matters more than how you feel

Built around your history, not a generic protocol.

Did You Know?

The Stride That Strains

The skating stride is explosive, repetitive, and one-sided. Your groin pays the bill.

  • Every push loads the adductors. Shift after shift, one side more than the other.
  • The 80% rule. Drop below an 80% adductor-to-abductor strength ratio and your risk climbs fast.
  • Nearly 1 in 4 come back. In the NHL, groin injuries recur at a 23.5% rate.

The strain didn't come out of nowhere. It came from the stride.

The Boards Don't Forgive

One check into the glass and the brain takes the hit. Concussions sideline players longer than almost any other hockey injury.

  • Contact is the cause. Body checks and collisions lead to most concussions.
  • Symptoms linger. Dizziness, balance, and vision problems can last for weeks.
  • Early beats late. Started early, vestibular rehab gets players back in a median of 31 days instead of 110.

Waiting it out isn't recovery. It's a longer road back.

The Checking Toll

Rotation, impact, and a hunched skating posture load the spine every single shift.

  • Micro-trauma adds up. Repetitive checking loads the spine over time.
  • Rarely one hit. Low back and neck pain build gradually.
  • The neck link. Post-concussion tightness in the neck makes it worse.

Most players blame one bad shift. The real problem is load that never got managed.

Are You Training for the Season?

Tryouts, tournaments, and comebacks after injury all ask more of your body than regular play. Ramp up the right way and you stay on the ice. Ramp up blind and you break down.

Ben Johns

What most players skip:

  • Injury rates peak in the first weeks of ramping up intensity. Jumping into camp without a plan is when bodies break down.
  • Static stretching before you skate does more harm than good. A dynamic warm-up is what actually prepares your body.
  • Preseason adductor strengthening cuts groin strains by up to 79%. Skipping it is the most common mistake in hockey.

We Cover Your Events On-Site

On-site physio for hockey tournaments, leagues, and camps, led by a certified sport physiotherapist trained to assess and treat injuries rink-side, so a small injury never becomes a season-ending one.

On-site, we handle:

  • Acute injury triage. We tell a simple strain from something serious, fast, before a player makes it worse.
  • Taping & bracing. On-the-spot support so players can keep moving safely.
  • Concussion sideline screening. A trained eye on every head contact and a clear call on whether it's safe to return.
  • Return-to-play decisions. A professional call before a tweak turns into a tear.
  • Between-period recovery. Soft tissue work and assisted stretching that fights the fatigue of a long day.
  • Dynamic warm-up stations. Proper prep for hips, groin, and shoulders before the first whistle.

How We Help Hockey Players Stay in the Game

At Vaughan Physiotherapy Clinic, we work with hockey players at every level, from minor hockey and beer league to competitive rep and old-timer play. Whether it's a groin that won't settle, lingering dizziness after a hit, or a back that tightens up shift by shift, we have the team to get you back on the ice faster.

Physiotherapy

  • Rebuilds your stride. Restores the adductor and core strength skating depends on.
  • Fixes the root cause. Not just the symptom, so you break the play, break-down, recover cycle.
  • Screens your risk. Strength-ratio testing catches groin and hip problems before they happen.

Chiropractic

  • Restores joint mobility. In the spine and joints checking and skating beat up most.
  • Stops the compensation. When joints aren't moving right, everything around them overloads.
  • Eases chronic pain. Hands-on care for low back and neck, backed by strong evidence.

Massage Therapy

  • Speeds recovery. Cuts delayed muscle soreness between games.
  • Real recovery. Your body rebuilds between games instead of just surviving them.
  • No head start lost. You're not beginning every shift already behind.
